Reflections on #lrnchat: Curation | David Kelly
http://davidkelly.me/2012/04/reflections-on-lrnchat-curation/
Q1. Curation can be defined as organizing/maintaining a collection of artifacts; How do you define Curation in Learning? Q2. What examples of curation have you seen? (Good or bad, doesn’t need to be learning related) Q3. Where does (or would) curation take place within an organization? Q4. What skills are required for curating? Q5. What are some ways an org could use curation to enhance learning and performance?

Powerful Learning Practice | Connected Educators
http://connectededucators.org/community/powerful-learning-practice/?interview=1
Purpose, size and social artistry - these are among the essentials of online community described by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach in this interview outlining the development of the Powerful Learning Practice online communities. "I’d really caution developers to not become fixated on size and numbers," she says. "You really need to think about quality and whether you have the right people on the bus, not necessarily the most people." Also worth mention is the idea of distributed leadership, discussed in the latter part of the interview. "Ideally, you’re bringing back diverse thinking, helping achieve what Frans Johansson calls 'the Medici Effect': the idea that true diversity produces true innovation."

FCL and Knowledge Building: A Continuing Dialogue (pdf)
http://ikit.org/fulltext/AnnBrownOct10.06.pdf
Contemporary educational approaches, especially those informed by the learning sciences, almost all pursue twin goals of uncertain compatibility. One goal is to insure students’ grasp of important ideas. The other is to help them develop as autonomous learners and thinkers. Some approaches may be biased toward the first goal, others toward the second, but generally there is a tension, which may be alleviated by compromise, wishful thinking, or other more adventurous approaches.

Sharing: Culture and the Economy in the Internet Age
This book is about file sharing for creative, expressive or informative works in all media. More specifically, it is about file sharing between individuals and without profit motive. File sharing is the act of making a file available to other individuals by putting it on-line, by sending a copy, or by rendering it accessible through a file sharing software. We defend the view that sharing without direct or indirect monetary transaction – or “non-market” sharing – is legitimate. We also claim that sharing is socially and culturally valuable and will play a key role in the future of our culture and the creative economies.
